One Act Plays

During the autumn over the past 12 years or so we have held an annual supper during which we perform two one act plays, each running between half an hour and forty minutes in duration.

The evening has become a very popular part of our calendar – so much so that in 2008 we now perform the plays on a second evening in Datchworth

In Whitwell, the evening begins with one of the plays, is followed by a hot supper and ends with the second and final play.

The same format operates in Datchworth, although the meal tends to be fish and chips.

Unlike our other productions, where we hold auditions, the cast for each of the one-act plays is invited to take part by the directors and the sets tend to be as basic as the script allows. In this way, we keep costs to a minimum, are able to generate more profit which, in turn, increases the amount of money we are able to donate to local community projects each year.

The plays themselves tend to be comedies – although not exclusively so – and it’s a great opportunity for people, who may be understandably nervous about being involved in a large scale production, to have a go in a more relaxed anvironment.
