Social / Other Events

From time to time we organise and host different events during the year.

Although these are not necessarily annual events, we are hoping to make them more regular and frequent in coming years.

Historically, the most popular of these have been our Poems & Pints evenings and the Anything Goes series. Both are an opportunity for people in the parish and beyond to come and have a bit of informal fun and, we hope, either get involved in the Players or make a date to come and support future productions.

Poems and Pints is an evening where people can come and have a drink, recite or read a poem or a favourite excerpt from a book, sing a song (silly or otherwise), recite a limerick or simply come and watch others do it. There’s no running order, no stage, no lights and no pressure to do anything at all (although it would be a strange evening if no-one did anything!)

Anything Goes is performed on the stage and a fish and chip supper is included in the ticket price. For a sense of what it’s all about, think Old Time Music Hall but without the ‘I Say, I Say, I Say…’ jokes or a final rendition of ‘Down At The Old Bull And Bush’ or ‘It’s A Long Way To Tipperary’.

In short, if you’ve got a sketch or a song or a skit you fancy performing to an audience of people who want you to do well and will do whatever they can (and within the universally accepted parameters of taste and decency) to help you, or if you just want to watch others performing a variety of different material, then this is the event to come to.

Beyond that, we’ve held other ad hoc events such as treasure hunts, race nights and the like over the years – and we’re currently looking at the possibility of staging a murder mystery dinner.

Look out for future events on the homepage!
